Stem cells from your urine can be used to create your lost teeth!
If you were told that in the near future you may be able to escape the dentures and regrow your lost one from your own urine teeth, Do you believe it? No? Hummmm. Yet, Chinese researchers were able to reproduce the structure of a natural tooth. These are researches at the Institute of Biomedicine and Health Canton, China, who made this experiment on mice. Published in the journal Cell Regeneration Journal July 30 last, the experiment conducted by the research team is simple. They reprogrammed the cells recovered in the urine of animals induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) and are able to differentiate into any other cell type. This has allowed them to create all the components namely a tooth enamel, dentin and pulp. By implanting in rodents, the researchers were able to grow a tooth in the space of three weeks. The ultimate goal being to successfully replace human teeth lost in accidents or diseases for example.
However, it will wait a little longer before they can be implanted teeth created from your urine. Still at the stage of experimentation, urine contains few cells and the likelihood of them into stem cells is very low. The success rate of this method is that only 30% currently. According to Professor Chris Marson, University College London, interviewed by the BBC, the project has other limitations not least. Teeth "artificial" are three times weaker than natural. In addition, the bacteria in the urine leaving the body could also contaminate the cells and therefore the recipient. Despite the risks that may represent the use of urine in the process of recreating a tooth, it could especially in the long term become accessible to all solution. It would be curious to see the result that it could give to humans! Do you find this disgusting innovation or do you think it is a way like another to find solutions to the problems of tooth loss?
