Microsoft Brings Its Windows Tiles on The Car Dashboard

Windows Tiles on The Car Dashboard
The Microsoft wants to more present in the infotainment system on the dashboard, one of the team members of the company said in the Build 2014 Developer Conference. Tiles of Windows phones could soon show on the big screen of the car if Microsoft manages to enforce their “Windows in the Car" concept. The Smartphone content will be mirrored and adapted so that the driver can control music, navigation and many vehicle functions.

Apple had presented with Carplay already in March 2014 with such a system. Microsoft does not want that car concept since Microsoft is already there since 2006 Fiat, Ford and Nissan have been using the new Windows Embedded Automotive and other manufacturers such as BMW use the former as Windows Automotive or Windows Auto -known system of the CE product family. Apple had already demonstrated with Carplay at the Geneva Motor Show, as the integration of Smartphones is possible in the car dashboard, without losing the look and feel of iOS.

They the Microsoft, now wants to emulate and represent information of Smartphones with Windows Phone on the car display. For this, the optics must be adjusted so that the driver is not distracted. Want to play besides the typical entertainment features like music and phone calls accepted, read text messages and the navigation function can be used. Also, all apps can be displayed on the screen, albeit in an adapted form. App developers should be given the opportunity to change depending on the condition of the vehicle complexity.

Driving the car, for example, the interface can be simplified. The user can access the home screen to set the tiles of his apps that he often needs to find them again fast. Also, notifications can be faded in the display to alert the driver, for example, in front of schools on his way or to show the maximum allowed speed. According to media reports, Microsoft Mirror link uses for communication between the Smartphone and the car. The industry standard Mirror Link was developed by the Car Connectivity Consortium, will allow users to connect mobile devices to the vehicle electronics it.

Scrolling and swiping on the big screen are thus transferred to the Smartphone. The control of music playback on the big screen may be on the steering wheel. Toyota already demonstrated in the end of 2011 how this works in the car.

Apple does not support Mirror Link, but numerous car manufacturers such as VW, Citroen, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and provider of car radios like Alpine, Panasonic and Sony. On Smartphones support is still quite manageable. This Mirror Link can be offered to Nokia's Symbian Belle devices and the Sony Xperia Z too.

Android Oldboot B Malware, a predecessor of Oldboot A

Oldboot B
Android Oldboot B malware has been detected by Chinese researchers from `360 Mobile Security’ and appears from an evolution of its predecessor Oldboot A and as of today, the most complex bootkit which has infected millions of devices. Oldboot B has been considered to be the most sophisticated Android malware detected and has already infected millions of mobile devices.

Its predecessor, Oldboot A was detected in early 2014 by Doctor Web, a Russian security firm and Oldboot A’s principal capability is to infect the Smartphone after reboot irrespective of all its components deleted by the user. Bootkit is a category of malware that can infect the host at start up and is also capable in performing malicious activities which may include data stealing, communicate with a remote C&C server, disk encryption, and remove the application on the victim’s device. Moreover Oldboot B also implements a new type of advanced evasion techniques which can avoid its deletion to principal antivirus software as well automatic analysis systems.

Oldboot silently injecting malicious module

The ability to silently installing Apps in the background, Oldboot B can also inject malicious modules into critical system process and prevent Apps from uninstalling, disable or uninstall mobile Anti Virus software and modify the browser’s homepage. The Oldboot is a well organized large Trojan family and every member has a clear division of labor which has been written by professional programmers and promoted by some commercial companies which evolves constantly and a new tool is specially used to effectively detect and defend this Bootkit.

Once the user’s Android mobile is infected, the Oldboot B malware waits for the command sent by C&C which is located at az.o65.org – IP 61.160.248.67 and makes use of stegnography to hide data within file exchanged with C&C and installs various malicious applications on the user’s mobile. The Oldboot B malware consisting of four principal components registers itself as services can also ensure the persistence to the malicious code.

Evasion Capabilities – Meaningless code and Random Behavior

The first being boot_tst is the component which is responsible for command reception as well as execution and uses a remote injection technique to introduce an SO file and a JAR file to the `system server’ to process the Android system. The second is adb_server which replaces pm script of the Android system with itself while its main function is to avoid malicious code uninstall.

The third is meta_chk which silently downloads and install Android Apps promoted in the background and is also capable of opening a backdoor for remote control. Besides, the component is also capable of removing itself leaving injected process in the memory by which antivirus software are unable to detect it since they are unable to perform a memory scan in the Android platform. Finally agentsysline runs in the background and receives command from C&C server, the possibility of deleting specific files within its ability, enable/disable network connection as well as uninstall antivirus software.

The most likely evasion capabilities which makes hard the detection of Oldboot B are that it adds some meaningless code and trigger some behavior randomly, checks for availability of SIM card in the device and not perform certain behavior if there is no SIM card, check for existence of antivirus software and probably uninstall the antivirus software before doing anything malicious. The possibility to avoid Oldboot B malware is to download and install app which are from official stores only and avoid unreliable custom ROMs. If a mobile is infected by Oldboot B, the free removing tool designed by antivirus firm 360 Mobile Security can be downloaded.

Netflix

Netflix made headlines in late 2013 when a cheerful customer service representative opened an online chat with "This is Cpt Mike of the good ship Netflix, which member of the crew am I speaking with today?" What followed was a fun, friendly exchange as both parties engaged in Star Trek banter to diagnose the problem at hand. The whole thing went viral in a matter of days, making Netflix more popular than ever.

Trader Joe's

In 2010, a young woman called Trader Joe's during a snowstorm and asked if they would make an exception to their delivery policy in order to get some groceries to her 89-year-old grandfather. Not only did they agree, but they sent the food to the elderly man free of charge!

WestJet

For this year's holiday season, WestJet put a fully-costumed Santa Claus in their airport to ask passengers what kind of Christmas gifts they'd like to receive. What the weary travelers didn't realize, however, is that WestJet employers made a list of all their wishes and had the items bought, wrapped and delivered to their landing destination while they were still in the air. Now that's a Christmas miracle!

These are just a few instances of excellent service. For more information, including tips, tricks and software that will help you better communicate with your customers, visit a site like ServiceSource.com.

Keep Your Retail Operations Flowing Smoothly

Are you having trouble keeping track of your inventory, when orders are supposed to be filled or who hasn't paid you yet? If that sounds like you, you could use some help running your retail establishment. The use of retail operations management software can make it easier to run an efficient company that makes more money and better serves its customers.

When a company knows how much inventory it has, it won't order supplies that it doesn't need. For example, if a worker on the sales floor knows that there are more bananas in the backroom, those bananas can be put on the sales floor and sold right away. If that worker didn't know that there were more bananas in the back, he or she may order more to meet customer demand.

Unfortunately, that costs the company money in two ways. First, product that could have been sold will rot in the backroom because no one knows that it is there to sell. Second, the company will have to spend money ordering more product. In some cases, the company could lose money a third way if customers decide to start shopping elsewhere for their produce because a competitor has a reliable supply of produce at all times.
