Open Source Software

Open Source Software
Hello guys today we will discuss about one of the most crucial area of computer technology that has proved to be the turning point for many IT and software companies and the name of that domain is “Open Source Software”.

So Open Source Software might be a new name for you but everyone is using open source in daily life. Yes it’s a fact that everyone uses open source in daily life and even big companies like Facebook, Amazon etc. also uses Open Source Technology. Facebook is currently working on “Apache Hadoop project” which is an open source software project which helps in distributed processing of huge data. We will discuss about “Apache Hadoop” in more detail in later blogs. The Android Phones which we use is also one of the most successful projects of open source technology and it has been adopted by every company like Nokia, Samsung, Micromax etc. So you can see that how open source is related to us in everyday life.

What actually is Open Source Software?

If we look at the name then we can say that “Open” means everyone can have access to it. “Source” means the code that has been used to develop that software. So it is a software which comes along with its source code and anyone can see the code and edit it and redistribute it hence its “Open Source”.

What are the features of Open Source Software?

Many companies have turned themselves towards the open source technology because it has great advantages over the proprietary software. It has great advanced features that are never found in closed or proprietary software. So the features that set open source software far ahead from others are:

· It is “free software” meaning you don’t have to pay to use it. You can simply download it for free from the open source websites.

· You can see the coding of that software and you have right to modify it and redistribute it. So this gives flexibility to the software as millions of people contribute to one software.

· It is highly secured and no virus attack is possible because it’s already open so no one can hack it.
· No vendor lock-in meaning that you are not restricted to one vendor.

· Everyone has right to contribute to the open source project. Communities are formed and ideas are viewed and implemented from all over the world.

· It’s developed from fine algorithm hence its very fast and it never hangs like windows.
· Great GUI (Graphic User Interface).

So these are some key features that are responsible for the success of Open Source world.

What are the examples of most commonly used Open Source Software?

You might be thinking that you have never used any open source software because its sounds really technical but guys have you ever used “VLC media player” to play your audio video files. So let me tell you VLC media player is open source software that is developed by open source community.

You might have used “Mozilla Firefox” as your web browser so it’s also the open source product.

Other most commonly used Open Source products are:

Linux (operating system),

Android (mobile OS),

GIMP (image editor),

Blender (3D animation modeling tool),

And many more.

So guys I hope now you have a sound knowledge about the Open Source Software technology and it is very important to know about this topic because it’s the current trend of computer technology and is being adopted by top companies at rapid speed.

We will discuss about some more software of this platform on our later blogs so stay connected.

Surge Protection In The Office

Surge
Surge protectors are found in every home and office in the world, but surge protection for large servers or super computers is a much more complicated service. The surge protective devices used in modern offices are attached to the most important parts of the office. The installation of these devices makes every business safer and more efficient.

Installing The Surge Protectors

The surge protectors are installed by professional electricians who understand how to protect these sensitive electronic devices. The devices must be wired to the surge protection units, and the surge protection must be powered individually.

These surge protectors are given their own power supply, and they are hooked up to special generators that are not on the main power supply. The business' servers and computers are protected with this setup, and the installation company can service their units every so often to keep them functioning.

Maintaining The Surge Protectors

The surge protectors that are used in the office are not to be touched by the people working in the office. The office workers only use the computers and servers when they are at work. The people who work around these units all day must take care to notice problems that arise with the units.

The company can call for assistance any time they discover problems with their systems. The service company can visit the business at any time, and they can complete repairs of these surge protection units. The units will need to be shut off during service, but the business can still operate.

Tripping The Protectors

The surge protection units in the office can be tripped or damaged by major power surges. These units take the brunt of a power surge, and they will break down if they are hit especially hard. The service company can visit the same day to repair them or replace them after they have done their job.

Most businesses will never have problems with power surges, but they must make sure they have protection just in case. These surge protection units are wired to the electronics in the office, and they can be serviced at any time by the installer.

Motorola Moto 360

Motorola Moto 360
Motorola Moto 360
The SmartWatch Moto 360 is developed by Motorola with Android Wear. Now new images have surfaced on the net. Unlike other Smart Watches the Motorola Moto 360 has a circular display. There are hardly any photos of the SmartWatch equipped with a round clock display.

The tech Whistleblower ev leaks has released new images of the Motorola Smart Watch Moto 360. The Italian website Mr. Gadget also has released new images of the Moto 360 and its charging station. The Motorola Moto 360, which showed by Google to its developers fair I / O, without any images and only few key points and some data were made public.

Through this leaking of these images of clock more technical data can be inferred. Using the side view can be seen that the clock probably comes in different colors on the housing with silver and black. In addition, the images provide a detailed insight into the design, which is held unlike the LG G Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Gear Live in round shape.

The Moto 360 features as the Samsung Galaxy Live via a button located on the side of the case. The design of the SmartWatch leaves a high quality impression. So the bracelet is probably not plastic or rubber, but of leather or metal. The pictures, however, can not estimate how thick the display is. According to the images it is a waterproof and dust proof. The housing consists largely of stainless steel. A pulse sensor with an optical module is also included.

Additionally there is a pedometer. The clock is in contrast to the competing models and is not charged with a cable, but by induction. Photos of the associated charging cradle were also shown by Mr. Gadget. The Moto 360 is vertically placed inside so that it is more readable. The clock battery is 2.5 times bigger than that of LG G Watch and it can run about a day. The display is easy to read in the sunlight and it is shows better colors than the G Watch.

They have promised for a Smart with following features in the Google conference Google I / O. First, there is the SmartWatch with the new operating system operate with wiping and tip gestures. Furthermore, however, the voice input function via Google Now. With the "OK Google" command then guide users through Internet searches, send messages or bear dates in the calendar.

Wear Android, Google's new operating system for Smart Watches, makes this possible. When the motor 360 is going to be released and exactly how much it will cost, however, remains unknown.

Apple Patent – Electronic Backup of Application

Patent has been granted to Apple on Electronic Backup of Applications No.US 20140059469 A1. The disclosed implementation is related to storing and restoring of digital data.

Updated graphical user interfaces enables a huge number of graphical items or objects which can be viewed on a display screen at the same time and operating systems like Apple Mac OS offer user interfaces wherein a number of graphical user interface window are resized, viewed, overlapped, configured, moved and reformatted as per the requirements of the user or a certain application. Menus, taskbars, virtual buttons together with other user interface elements offer mechanisms to access and activate windows while they are hidden behind other windows.

With the availability of sophisticated tools, users can now revise or improve over a period of time, besides creating and saving a variety of items in their computers. For instance, a user working with a particular file who later on would want to save the file’s current version on a storage device and then, the following day inclined to change his mind about the revision or probably come up with other options and then open the file again.

Word Processing Application Program – Undo Features

The revision process is straightforward if the user tends to do more addition of material to the file or make certain changes to the existing file.

It would be difficult if the user who had second thoughts about changes which were previously done and would need the file back to its previous version. For word processing, application program enables the user to `undo’ the earlier edits of text to a predefined number of past revisions and the undo feature is usually configured in order that the previous revisions can be undone in reverse chronological order, which means that the user should first undo the recently edited text then the second edited text and so on.

Should the user save and exit from the document and later on open the said document again, the same may not be possible to automatically undo the previous edited text.
Methods/Systems – Storing/Restoring Digital Data

Methods and systems are provided for the purpose of storing and restoring of digital data which includes receiving a first user input requesting that a history view connected with the prevailing view of the application is displayed, retrieve data connected with the history view, to determine a presentation format for the data as well as display the history view in response to the first user input with the presentation format, of earlier version of the present display of application.

All this can be done while a current view of an application is displayed in user interface. Other embodiments with regards to this aspect would include corresponding systems, computer program, products, and apparatus together with computer readable media. The patent helps in the history view including consolidated data associated with at least a first visual representation of the previous  versions of the latest view of the user application.

In one aspect, a method is provided which includes identifying of application data to store during an initial backup operation which includes a variety of application files and index, storing of application data during the first backup operation as well as storing a backup index which is a subset of the index.

The aspect also include initiating a second backup operation which includes storing changed application data related to the first backup operation as well as updating the backup index which can be an email application.

Apple Patent – Routing Based on Detected Stops

A mobile device with some implementation helps in transmitting traffic information to a server for analysis and the traffic information could give indication of movement information which could include the detected stops as well as the duration of the detected stops.

Moreover this traffic information could also be used in analysing and detecting traffic patterns which could indicate the location of stop signs and stop lights. It could also help to determine the duration of stop signs and stop lights wherein the duration could be connected to the time of day or the day of the week.

The traffic information would be helpful in tremendous ways based on the traffic congestion and saving on time while travelling from one location to another. Updated mobile devices comprises of navigational software and hardware enabling users with the assistance needed while travelling from one location to another wherein on input with regards to a desired destination, the mobile device has the capabilities of presenting one or more routes from start to finish indications regarding the desired location.Apple has been granted patent on `Routing based on detected stops’.

Mobile Devices – Capabilities of Transmitting Traffic Information

The route information would include distance from the beginning of the location to the end of the location and at times the route information would also be inclusive of the estimated time span needed to travel to the said distance which would depend on the distance and the speed.

The user could select the route based on the distance or the estimated time limit though this would not be accurate due to the volume of traffic which may or may not be known or included in the time limit. Mobile devices, in some implementations, also have the capabilities of transmitting traffic information to server for analysis which could include movement information with detected stops as well as the duration of these detected stops.

Moreover the traffic information could also be analysed in detecting the pattern of the traffic indicating locations of stop signs or stop lights as well as, to determine the duration of stops at stop signs and lights.

Graphical User Interfaces

The duration of the stops can be related with time of day or day of the week and navigational routes in some implementation can be considered based on stop signs or stop light information which may include the delay related to the detected stop signs and stop lights.

Certain implementations provide better accurate travel time estimates which can be calculated when stop signs or stop lights information is included in route information.

Faster routes with better options are determined when these information are included in the route determination as well as the best time to travel in order to avoid stops, can be determined with the help of this information.

The disclosure explains several GUI - Graphical User Interfaces in carrying out various features, workflows or processes that can be presented on various electronic devices which may include but not limited to desktop computers, laptop computers, computer terminals, tablet computer, television systems, smart phones and e-book readers.

Some of the electronic devices also include touch sensitive surface which can process various simultaneous functions of inputs like processing data related to pressure etc. These processes could facilitate gestures with various fingers inclusive of swiping and pinching.
